The
interior of Penang Island is mountainous, steep and in places still covered
with jungle. Penang Hill is nearly 3,000' high. Trails and a jeep road
connect Penang Hill to the Botanical Gardens through this jungle. The walk
is about 4 miles and 3 sweaty hours long, with howling monkeys, lots of
birds, orchids and millions of insects. Some of the trees are nearly 300'
tall - connected to the ground by vines and lianas.
