This
drummer was one of about 20 people who participated in the Lavrati ceremonies
at the Sri Mahamariamman Hindu temple. They built a large fire near the
doorway, stoked the fire with twigs and palm branches and poured clarified
butter on it to keep it going. They tossed flowers, silk, foods and spices
into the fire after anointing the offerings with spices, oil, milk and
honey.
