Mono Basin and Hot Creek Area

In the summer flocks of Wilson's Phalaropes (Phalaropus tricolor) and Red-necked Phalaropes arrive at Mono Lake in shimmering clouds to feast at this All-You-Can-Eat Fly & Shrimp Buffet. This beautiful art work is in the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center in Lee Vining, off of Hwy 395. The photos in this gallery include the South Tufa Reserve and Hot Creek, along with other points of interest along Hwy 395 between Lee Vining and Tomís Place. This is 2 of 3 galleries of photos that were taken on a trip in July, 2015 with the Milo Baker Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. The identifications on some of the plant photos are open to question. Please feel free to send IDs and corrections to info@jimndar.net.
