Rock Creek Area

Acmon Blue Butterflies (Plebejus acmon) are found in the Sierras all the way to the Pacific Ocean. This specimen is a male with a dark narrow border on its wings that females don't have. Their caterpillars feed on leaves, flowers, and developing seeds, and are tended by ants. Females lay eggs on various species of buckwheat (Eriogonum nudum), lupines (Lupinus), trefoils (lotus), and milkvetches (Astragalus).
