Rock Creek Area

The Monkshood (Aconitum columbianum) flowers have a hollow spur containing the nectar at the top on the back. The center of the flower includes 2 petals and many stamens. The five inner petals are much smaller, hidden by the sepals. This Monkshood is pollinated by bumblebees, but the Bumblebee Wolf (a wasp) preys on the bumblebees and is reducing the number of pollinators in the area of their nests, and the amount of fruit produced is also reduced.
