Rock Creek Area

The whole Lemmon's Paintbrush (Castilleja lemmonii) plant is coated in glandular hairs. The inflorescence is made up of many purple or pink bracts. Between the bracts small yellowish-green flowers appear - each with a tiny purple stigma protruding out waiting to be pollinated. The anthers with their pollen remain inside the flower to be reached with the long tongues of hummingbirds (usually) and butterflies (sometimes).
