Yosemite and Tioga Pass Area

Crimson Columbine (Aquilegia formosa) has unusual nodding red & yellow flowers. the 5 red spur-like petals point backwards. The tips of the pointed spurs contain nectar that attracts hummingbirds. It looks like a couple of the spurs have already been drained. The genus name refers to eagle's talons (aquila in Latin).
