Yosemite and Tioga Pass Area

Red Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja miniata) grows in moist areas up to the timberline. Each of these flower heads only has a couple of flowers so far. They are long and yellow-orange and pollinated by hummingbirds. The red bracts are supposed to enclose the flower, but these don't seem to be doing that. The leaves are green and covered with thin hairs.
