Charming Centaury (Zeltnera venusta) is in the gentian family. The names refer to Centaur Chiron (half man/half horse) who discovered that this plant had medicinal properties. And the beautiful Greek Goddess Venus is a tribute to the beauty of this flower. The Native Americans and the Spanish used it to make a fever-reducing tea, thus the Spanish common name, Canchalagua.
