Yosemite and Tioga Pass Area

Driving on Hwy 120 to Tioga Pass passes through 5 habitat zones. As we approach Olmstead Point we are entering the Sub-Alpine habitat. Here many plants and animals are interdependent to survive. An example is the fungus, flying squirrel, owl interrelationship where the root fungi improve nutrient absorption for the trees, the flying squirrels feed on the truffle-like mushrooms and owls prey upon flying squirrels. One missing link can threaten all.
