Yosemite and Tioga Pass Area

Juniper mistletoe (Phoradendron juniperinum ssp. juniperinum) is a leafy mistletoe that only takes water and minerals from its host and so is not nearly as damaging as the Dwarf Mistletoes that get most of their nutrients from their host. It is hemiparasitic, meaning it contains some chlorophyll and can photosynthesize some energy for itself as well. They produce berries that sustain many birds through the harsh winter.
